“Philosophically print is right at the centre of Fine Art where the subject can expand”.

Every artist is influenced by the many cultural formats of their surroundings. Being Indian yet under the hegemony of the western education explore not only very Indian-ness and the symbolic contents of the cultural but the transition in the perception of it.

Sapna reinvents the forms of thought and we communicate with the precedent and the unidentified. The forms archaic, unknown, pure yet seemingly unintentional in though bought down into reality thought her distinctive language praising the essence of being, being a part of a cultural ethos.

The work exuberates the need to back to the historic ,and finding its place in the present global, giving the artwork and art community a platform for discussion on the very meaning of the word Indian-ness. Experimentation with the old identity i.e. the scriptures or ‘pothis’ verses the new founds techniques of the old known identity and the new found identity .Can the two really coexist? Sapna’s work not only makes us question the same but makes the viewer question their very own identity as an individual living in a country of mixed cultural flux.

Sapna’s works are reminiscent of palimpsesta ,manuscripts or scroll bringing with them this mysterious air of being a shred of history bought before our eyes thought a new language . A simplification of a complex process which translates into a desire to achieve the whole,a divinity to achieve the unseen and the quest to an identity. Smriti Rajgarhia
